Important: the April CTP only supports the following frameworks:

.NET Framework 3.5
XNA 3.0 or better (Windows, Xbox360 and Zune)
.NET Compact Framework 3.5.

This new release contains the following major features:

API has been simplified. Yes even more ;-)
Updated Documentation.
The ObjectSpace type has a single constructor.
New ObjectSpace.ObjectTrackingEnabled property. This property replaces the ObjectLibraryAccessMode enumeration which was not very intuitive.
ObjectSpace.Add() is now a O(1) operation. The object graph scan task is performed once you call ObjectSpace.Save().
Overall performance has been improved.
The ObjectSpace class now implements both ICollection and ICollection(T) intefaces. This means that the ObjectSpace now behaves like any other collection. As a result, related objects cannot be accessed directly from the ObjectSpace. Serialization of related object is managed automatically by the ObjectSpace.
API consumers now can take advantage of the available extension methods in .NET 3.5.
GetFirstObject(T), GetObjects() and GetObjects(T) methods were removed from the ObjectSpace type. Consumers should now query the ObjectSpace using the iterators, extension methods or LINQ expressions.
New ObjectSpace.Loaded event.
New ObjectSpace.SaveAndClose() method. If you want to create an object library from scratch only for adding objects this new method will let you save an close the ObjectSpace without the need to create the internal copies required for change tracking. For example, it is useful to save a game session where you just need to dump objects and close the ObjectSpace.
Several custom exception types have been removed. We are now triggering more general exceptions.
The ObjectLibraryAccessMode enumeration has been removed.

Next Release of Karvonite

We're working on releasing the next version of Karvonite in June. This release includes many new features and improvements in speed and memory use. We also fixed many bugs reported by Karvonite customers. Thanks for all the great feedback and for reporting bugs.

The next CTP will contain a bunch of new features and we're testing them now. We don't have an exact release date but it might be before May. Some of the latest features are:

Structure Support
Karvonite now supports structures. As a consequence, we've removed platform specific structures defined as predefined types from th Karvonite API. When building a persistence model, you simply add persistent structures as you add persistent classes.

New Predefined types
New predefined types: Sbyte, UInt16, UInt32 and UInt64.

XNA Framework 2
We provided support for the XNA Framework 2.

About Next CTP...

So far, we're still working on the new CTP. We expect to target a February CTP.
The Undo feature is not ready yet and won't be available in the next CTP.

We've some interesting benchmarks between .NET Binary serialization, .NET Xml serialization and Karvonite.

We'll publish them soon.

Finally, we will releasing the new Karvonite preview (now November 2007) on Friday November 2, 2007. This new version contains lot of new features.
This new version supports the following frameworks:

- .NET Framework 2.0
- .NET Framework 3.0
- .NET Framework 3.5 (beta 2) (required to run Persistence Model Designer app)
- .NET Compact Framework 2.0
- .NET Compact Framework 3.5 (beta 2) - XNA Framework 1.0 (Refresh)

This is the last preview. The final version will be available soon after the Visual Studio 2008 / .NET Framework release. We're also looking for new features and user feedback, so feel free to post your comments and ideas in this blog.

About the Next Karvonite Release

Karvonite is the new Object Persistence Framework for the Microsoft .NET Framework 2 from AdventurerLand.

Karvonite is well-suited for creating document centric applications (i.e., a word processor, a game-level editor, configuration files), storing game data (see below), and other kind of applications where XML files are not enough and the horsepower of a SQL engine is unnecessary.

The Karvonite CTP (September 2006) will be available soon in the following weeks. Karvonite is simple, powerful and intuitive. The framework also runs in the .NET Compact Framework.

The release of the Microsoft XNA Framework definitely opens the door for .NET to the game development arena and Karvonite is a great complementary tool for such framework. A specific version for the XNA Framework will be available soon too.
